"Rustic charm and great location!"

5 of 5

What a location and view! If you are looking for a spot right on the river, with great beach access - here it is. Our family loved this cabin, and enjoyed opening the french doors, taking in the natural beauty, lounging on the deck, and playing in the water close by. Wonderful little spot!

"Rustic River Charmer"

4 of 5

Sweeping views of the beautiful Russian River. Five star seating from the Lido deck in a bubbling spa. Eclectic charmer tucked away in the redwoods, on the edge of the beautiful Drake Estates neighborhood. A must for a small winter family getaway! Grab a cozy throw blanket a your book!

"Wonderful Vacation at Russian River (Cabernet Cottage)"

5 of 5

My wife, grandson and I had a great vacation staying at the Cabernet Cottage right on the Russian River. The location was ideal with a dock right on the river. The cabin itself, had 2 bedrooms and 1 bath but felt bigger. The kitchen had everything you need with a gas oven and full size refrigerator. The furnishings fit with a cabin and were very comfortable. There are ceiling fans in the great room and main bedroom. There is a satellite bedroom off the deck that contains a good sized bed and a table fan. There is a very expansive deck off the great room with chairs and a table and an easy to use barbeque. There is a very nice size hot tub on the lower level (we didn't use it) and a partial stairway leading down to the dock. There are two kayaks at the dock which we used a lot. Even though there are residences on both sides of the cabin, we found it to be very quiet especially at night. It's a little tricky getting to the cabin the first time but you get used to it. There is plenty of parking in front of the cabin. You can be as active if you want to be. In addition to kayaking, we played golf ( a few miles away), went zip lining (about a 15 minute drive), hiked at Bodega Bay (about a 20 minute drive, hiked at Armstrong Woods (about 10 minutes away) and did a lot of swimming. Then, there is the laid back town of Guerneville which is great to walk around in, visit the art galleries or just hang out.We so enjoyed eating on the deck of the cabin that we only went out to dinner once. All the other meals we ate at the cabin. There is a 24 hour Safeway in Guerneville so you can get pretty much anything there. My wife and I agreed that in terms beauty, outside living, activities, peacefulness and relaxation this is the best place we have stayed.By the way we rented through Russian River Getaways who were excellent to deal with. We had 1 issue during our stay that they took care of immediately. My only caveat is that cabin best suits a part of 4-5 maximum.

"The pictures do not do it justice"

We stayed for three nights. Absolutely no complaints. We were very comfortable and wanted for nothing. We would stay there again and recommend to friends and family.

"Excellent Choice"

5 of 5

Our family normally heads for the mountains each summer for our annual camping trip, This year, with the drought, that wasn't a choice so I searched for an alternative: a cabin. The Russian River area looked ideal as it was central to both wine tasting and visits to the beach. The Cabernet Cottage appealed to me so I rented it.This was an ideal vacation home. It had beautiful views, a ton of amenities and--best of all--allowed us to bring our dog, I was a bit worried as the pictures show the cabin to be rather plush, but upon arrival I was delighted. It's a rustic cabin with lots of wood, a wood burning stove and an expansive deck.We were there during dock season and it was excellent. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the provided kayaks. The dog and I enjoyed the raft I brought. You can row to isolated beaches or, as I did, row the dog to the Stumptown Brewery (just across the river) for a brew. (They provide accommodations for your dog.)The Cabernet Cabin is a short drive from Guerneville and a 24 hour Safeway. You're also a short drive from the coast, You're right next to a Redwood Forest Preserve. On one day, my wife an kids persuaded me to tour a forest on zip lines. What made this doubly nice was there's a dog sitter, Elizabeth who came to the cabin to watch our dog. She was excellent and Boo--the dog--was sad to see us come home. The property management firm is great! The few minor problems we had were corrected immediately.Overall, I would be hard pressed to find anything lacking. A fenced yard for the dog would have been nice--and some cabins have them--but taking the dog for an occasional walk was not a hardship. I strongly recommend the Cabernet Cottage for anyone seeking a cozy getaway!

"These reviews are old- tons of upgrades done!"

5 of 5

We had the distinct pleasure of staying at Cabernet Cottage. I wanted to find some photos of the place to share with friends when I happened on some of these reviews and was compelled to write.First of all, many of these reviews are old. The owner put in some new stairs to the backyard, landscaping, and an awesome dock so accessing the river is super easy. There were various rafts and inflatable toys in the garage that we easily launched from the dock and floated the afternoons away. What fun! It was a leisurely float across the river to the casual Stumptown Brewery where we indulged in yummy burgers and libations before floating back "home". The home was well-appointed with newer and comfortable furnishings that you'd expect at a vacation cabin. The linens were fresh and soft and the clawfoot tub in the bathroom is nice touch. The place was also very clean. We didn't notice any spider webs or other fun stuff that you should totally expect with a cabin in the woods. We wouldn't have minded if we had discovered this type of thing because hey, it IS a cabin in the WOODS. If you're looking for a laid back vacation where you can put your bare feet up, toast with friends, have easy access to the best vineyards, get out on the river, and enjoy a slice of the simple yet sophisticated lifestyle that the area has to offer then this is your place! And BONUS- the place is a screaming deal. We're already looking at our schedule to see when we can return. What a gem!

"Clean, quiet cabin on the river"

5 of 5

The house was even better than it looked in the pictures. The location on the river was gorgeous, and it's just a few steps away from a great little beach area. The wood paneling and cozy wood-burning stove make it feel like a cabin retreat. The kitchen was well stocked and organized. The place was very clean, with nice bed linens and towels. Huge hot tub! And only a few minutes' drive to town. I don't know how it is during the more crowded summer season, but we found the area very quiet and peaceful. Families with smaller children might not like the bedroom arrangement (the second BR has a separate outside entrance, so the occupant must be comfortable sleeping out of earshot and able to use housekeys to get to the bathroom.) It worked fine for us and our 9-year-old, though, and would be a great set-up for two couples because of the added privacy. The rental company was very organized and made it easy to check in / out without hassles. A perfect vacation...Thanks!!

Manager Response:

Thanks for the review and the compliments! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Cabernet and hope you'll be back soon. -Rachel, Russian River Getaways

"Charming with a few quirks"

5 of 5

I'm surprised with all the negative reviews here for Cabernet Cottage. We stayed in another place that just wasn't our style, so the company graciously allowed us to view a couple of other places and move into the Cabernet Cottage for the remainder of our stay. We loved it so much, we stayed an extra day.The house is small and quaint with good light and plenty of seating. It has a big living room area and a sweet little kitchen adjoining so cooks don't have to remove themselves from the action while doing their thing. The hot tub was great. The deck was beautiful...getting mid-day sun and a wonderful view of the river, ducks and all, but out of view of other places across the river. It was very private. The beds were comfortable and the decor simple and charming. My only words of warning are this: this place is not as well-stocked as others we've stayed in, which is fine as long as you are prepared. There are no flashlights, batteries for remotes, matches/lighters (!), large bowls (for salad, for instance), deck light for grilling at night, DVDs or a DVD player. Towels were a bit minimal and the owners do not provide any firewood. The house takes a LONG time to heat with the heater alone (if it ever does), so bringing tons of wood is critical if you visit in the cooler months. This didn't bother us, but the grounds were a bit unkempt in front. We felt the place would be so much cuter, curb-appeal-wise, if it were kept up a bit better. And it is true that getting to the water is a little precarious, though worth the effort. The owners must have updated the furniture since some of the negative reviews because they were all new and comfortable. I never would have chosen this place based on the reviews, but we found it to be a gem of a find and will definitely be back in the future, just perhaps a bit more prepared.

"our stay at Cabernet Cottage"

5 of 5

Beautiful house. The weather was cold, but the electric blankets had been turned on so even the bed in the "satellite room" was warm, although the rooms themselves were understandably pretty cold the first night we got there. The deck is gorgeous - I can imagine living out there most of the time when it's not so cold. Everything is in good repair, we wanted for nothing.. Short walk to the beach. Private setting - on Thanksgiving we could hear (not see) the happy gathering next door only when we were outside. The guest using the satellite room locked himself out so be careful about that! The owners even left us a very nice bottle of white wine. (what? no cabernet?:) About a mile to town, very walkable. I would definitely rent again.

"Lovely little cottage."

5 of 5

Very comfortable and cozy. Great neighborhood and access to the water. Love the new dock and thanks to RR getaways for leaving the dock for us so late in the season. Does need lighting out on the deck for outside dining.Definately will book ths again!

Manager Response:

Thanks for the nice review, and we are so glad you enjoyed the new dock at Cabernet. It is our pleasure to help in any way we can. We'll give your outdoor lighting suggestion to the owner. -Rachel

"Filthy"

2 of 5

I just stayed here with friends and we were very disappointed upon arriving and throughout our stay with how filthy and funky the Cabernet Cottage is. We were expecting rustic and could easily accept the old, funky furniture and worn wood, but not the layers of dust, spider webs and scunge. The bedroom ceiling was covered in dusty spider webs and the floors had not been cleaned in a very long time. Bundles of hair and dust covered the floor around the bed and it was just overall, gritty. We moved the bed away from the wall as there were webs attached to it and found years worth of dust and hair from previous guests and a breast milk pad. The living room wasn't much different. Let's put it this way; it's the kind of place you don't want to go barefoot in. The kitchen was scungy with grease still on the stove and dishes that were not cleaned properly...and oddly enough, the "Cabernet" Cottage was void of wine glasses, outside of a couple cloudy, unmatched ones hanging in the window area. Then we went to use the barbecue and it still had grease and food in it from whoever used it last. And forget using it at night unless you have a flashlight because there's no good outside light...we took a lamp outside so we could cook our lobsters. Then the water heater didn't work right, making showers a pain with the water fluctuating from scalding hot to cold. Overall, the place was filthy and funky, with the good part being the deck overlooking the river and the kayaks for the river.

Manager Response:

This is such an odd review. The furniture is almost all new in the last few years. We are sorry about the cleaning; that cleaner has been dismissed for this and other complaints. However, there are not years of dust in any of our homes. Spiderwebs are a hazard of this forested area. We clean them up and more come, sometimes within minutes. We'll speak to owner about the outside lighting, after we verify that the lighting is inadequate. -Rachel

"Beautiful view!"

4 of 5

Had a great time at the Cabernet Cottage! Love the 2 decks...one for hanging out and grilling...the other for a private hot tub! The Russian River is perfect for kayaking and just leisurely floating around. We didn't want to leave.

Manager Response:

We're so glad you liked Cabernet so well and hope you'll come back soon. Thanks for the great review! -Rachel

"Average Rental - bring your own deck and kitchen!!!"

3 of 5

Pluses - can't beat the location as it is right next to prime beach access. It's alway hard finding a good beach on Russian River with easy access in and out of the water. That said, getting down the path to the beach as others noted it not easy. We've stayed in other rentals nearby this one on the same street an would probably opt for those in the future an just use the public beach accessThe price of the rental is good. Hot tub was fantastic. Unlike many of the rentals up at Russian river there aren't tons and tons of stairs here. I like the exercise but know lots of stairs can be an issue for some. The satellite guest room was cute and quaint Minuses - bring your own deck and kitchen!!! Huge issue with the deck furniture. You couldn't even sit on it as it was so run down and wobbly. Frankly it was a liability issue. Someone is going to get hurt. I'm surprised nothing has been done about it especially since all the deck furniture is bad. It basically renders the best selling point of the place - the deck useless unless you bring your own folding chairs. Inside the decor is nicer and quaint. Tons if deferred maintenance. It's rustic. Kitchen has spartan appointments and utensils - who provides only two very small serving bowls? Shades were cheap and didn't workOtherwise everything "worked" adequately.

"A Restful Retreat"

4 of 5

Looking for a holiday away to decompress? This cottage is just perfect for that very experience I found. I needed to get away for a few days, just me and my dog and this comfortable cottage was the perfect spot. The home is overlooking the Russian River, with two decks where you can sit back and enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the scenery, drinking in the peace and calm surrounding you. The afternoon did heat up a bit inside but opening up the French doors leading to the first deck, the kitchen window, bedroom window and upper half of the front door brought in a cross draft that quickly cooled the cottage down with the assistance of the fans. I found pest spray almost eliminated any flying creatures that wanted to enjoy the inside tranquility of the home with you at night. As I brought my 4 legged family member with me, this home was very friendly and was the very getaway we both needed.

Manager Response:

It's always nice to be able to take your pet on vacation with you and not worry about anything but having a nice and relaxing time. We pride ourselves in being pet friendly and, with most of us here having dogs, we understand the importance of having your favorite friend with you. We hope to see you again soon.

"pros and cons"

3 of 5

Pros: Cabin is on river, near to town, had kayaks.Cons: Inside is dark, funky. Smelled musty. Second bedroom you must go outside to get to bathroom in middle of night.

Manager Response:

Cabernet Cottage is a cabin in the woods after all. It's a great little hideaway and, like you said, on the river and close to town. The woodwork inside the cottage is stunning but you have to like that sort of rustic feel and look. We hope you enjoyed your overall stay and will come back again!

"Nice cottage"

4 of 5

We stayed for a week to participate in the Vineman Triathlon and had a great stay. The cottage is a little worn looking on the outside but once in everything was very nice. Beds very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. Nice view of the river with easy access. Also close to town. The only thing that was a bit of a challenge was the shower water was difficult to get the right temperature due to the hot and cold handles hard to turn. There is a lot of stairs up to the house and also to the jacuzzi. Nice area for biking and running and you can swim in the river but it is shallow. Guerneville is kinda funky but we enjoyed our stay.

"Nice River View Cabin"

3 of 5

Loved the location, but was not easy getting getting to beach. Very precarious for older adults &children.; Weather good & very nice cabin, outdoor furniture needs repair & not very comfortable. Would stay again if they would make the stairs/beach access better for all family members.

Manager Response:

Perhaps very small children would have a problem (although mine would have been fine), but it's a typical local path down and across river frontage. Just a note on the beach: It's privately owned except at near waterline, so please stay down off the sand, near the water's edge. We'll check out the furniture and repair whatever needs repair. -Rachel, general manager

"Ideal getaway!!!"

5 of 5

This is a wonderful cozy cottage with an amazing view of the river. My husband and I spent a peaceful and restful vacation at this cottage. The bed in the main bedroom is very comfortable and clean. The size of this place is perfect for a couple. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped. The cottage is right on the water, few steps to the beach. The first night the TV wasn't working and the staff was quick to respond coming to the cottage in the evening to fix the problem. We really enjoyed having our meals on the deck with the tranquility of the river.

Thanks for the photos! Cabernet is a great little cottage, and I'm so glad you enjoyed its many charms. Just a note on the beach for future visits: Guests should stay down by the water line, as the sand up to the houses is private property, and be respectful of the local denizens' peace and quiet. -Rachel, Russian River Getaways

"Fantastic!"

5 of 5

We loved our stay and staying in Cabernet Cottage... Hot tub watching river flow, barbecueing steaks on the grill, kayaking on the river (and falling in and freezing) then returning to build a nice warm fire... Great location close to town but removed and quiet. We couldn't figure out how to work the TV but that was great because we played Uno and Monopoly and had a good ole family time...

Manager Response:

Excellent that you enjoyed this home so much. Next time give us a call about the TV if you can't figure it out from the house instructions (in the binder in each house). Also, just so you know, the river is not considered safe until May. -General Manager

"Stunning view of river & easy access to private beach"

4 of 5

Quaint cabin. Comfortable. Really enjoyed having our dogs with us.

Manager Response:

We're so glad you liked Cabernet. For future reference, there's no "private beach" at this home. There's a neighborhood access path next to the house, which leads to a beach fronted by private homes. Guests may use this beach up to the "high water mark," in this case, where the sand starts (the sand is private property); residents just ask that our guests clean up after themselves and keep the beach peaceful place. -General Manager

"Great View of the River"

4 of 5

Though the weather did not totally cooperate for our stay, we all felt that this cottage had a quirky charm in addition to its beautiful view of the river. The fact that the secondary bedroom was fairly small and without a closet in addition to only having exterior entrances into the main living space (it rained a bit and this made midnight runs to the potty sort of dampening) was odd but the room was warm and cozy at night, which is all that really matters. The kitchen was quite well stocked and clean & the hot tub was divinely private and we used it several times. There was an issue with the water heater pilot light that was easily remedied; however, the shower water temp was difficult to regulate so we kept them short - perhaps the water heater itself being an on-demand type had difficulty servicing the needs of four people. All in all, this is the fourth cabin we have rented thru Russian River Getaways and we liked it well enough to come back again. Thanks for providing such wonderful places to stay in one of our most favorite regions!

Manager Response:

You are so welcome! We're so glad you enjoyed this home, and it does have a great view. The satellite bedroom has hooks and under-bed drawers for clothing. The issue with the hot water was resolved back in June. -General Manager
