"Like living in a story book for a few days"

5 of 5

It rained, it poured, we slept, we snored...We only left a few times as we wanted to stay in the coziness of the living room. Brought lot's of wood, lot's of good food. Kitchen was fun to cook in, dining room with window beds was a magical escape, lot's of stairs so beware... a little challenge for our little blind dog but she was a trooper. The bed upstairs I loved, so comfy. Hot tub, nice and hot. Modern, efficient Nest heating system worked great. We brought our Boes speaker and listened to classical Christmas music, ate cinnamon rolls and scrambled eggs in front of the fire on Christmas morning.. watched the sun break through the trees in shafts of light and fog. Very special place, even played the piano . On the main highway, sorry can't remember, we toured the Korbel Champagne winery, was wonderful, of course so was the champagne and deli. We've rented from Russian River 3 years in a row for Christmas, each time a different place. Like children, hard to pick our favorite but this one was pretty magical!

"Awesome cabin in the woods"

5 of 5

I have been going to the Russian River for years and this was one of the best cabins I have ever stayed in. Perfect for chilling, playing cards, sitting by the fire, hitting the hot tub, cooking, laughing and just all around relaxation!

"A quirky but pleasant cabin"

4 of 5

Enjoyed our three night stay here. The cabin has a quirky layout on three levels. Good amenities for the most part. Scenic atmosphere amongst the redwoods. Only real concern was the lack of any outdoor area for dogs to play. Lots of rules posted all over the place - maybe too many. Difficult little street to negotiate. Overall we liked it and would recommend to people without dogs and physically able to handle the cliff walkway and internal narrow and steep stairways.

"Magical retreat with heart and soul in lovely forest"

5 of 5

We loved this place. My husband and I wanted somewhere special to go for our 20th anniversary, and this place did not disappoint. I appreciated all the thought put into furnishing, designing and building this place, you could tell a lot of love went into it and many good times were had on this property. It feels like you are one with nature the way the french doors open out to beautiful decks, and windows galore ( the lower bathroom with all those windows was incredible). Great kitchen. It is built on a hillside and there are lots of stairs, so it's not exactly wheelchair accessible. The hot tub was nice to soak in, although the cement pad it sat on was not much bigger than the hot tub itself, making it tough to go around it to remove and replace the cover, but being on such a slope I can see how there wasn't much room to expand. The town of Cazadero is small but has a general store and a wonderful bakery. We did a few bike rides in the area that were hilly but scenic. We went to Duncan Mills one night for dinner and Monte Rio for another night, both a 20ish minute drive.

Manager Response:

Tuck-It-Inn is one of my favorite places for all the reasons you mention. The hot tub is a little tricky, but it's so amazing when you're out there on that hillside with the stars and trees and wow! We're so glad you enjoyed the house and the area. Please do come back, and thanks for sharing your experience. -Rachel

"Superb Spot!"

5 of 5

We had a great vacation beginning at Tuck It Inn which is cozy as well as being ample for a family to relax in. The venue is beautiful and it is close enough to both the redwood forests and the ocean to make it an ideal base for exploring the area. Best moments were on the decks and in the hot tub and just grooving on the scenery. All in all, we were quite impressed and would come back again without a doubt.

"A Total Retreat"

5 of 5

My wife and two of our close friends rented The Tuck-It-Inn the first week of March. We were looking for a place along the Russian River Road where we could be close to the ocean and within reasonable distance to wine country. We couldn't have chosen a better place for that. At the end of a windy dirt road, and seemingly perched on a cliffside, the Tuck-It-Inn was charming, quiet and a great place to come home to at the end of our touring days. While the location might not be for everyone - those looking for a quiet escape couldn't choose a better location. Everything worked in the home and the kitchen is a real treat. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and it was so nice to come home and light a real wood fire. The instructions that were left by the owners on how to get in, what codes to use and the operations of the home were perfect. We couldn't have selected a better location and are looking forward to our next trip out to stay there again.

"A nice, if chilly, little cottage."

3 of 5

Me and my girlfriend stayed at Tuck-it-inn with another couple, and had an altogether good experience. The cabin has a very nice kitchen, comfortable beds, and a nice split-level layout - the dining room and living room are both very well-arranged. The views from the windows are amazing, and the entire cottage feels very private. However, it has some problems. We stayed in the winter, and the cottage has very, very poor insulation - many windows are single-paned, and don't even have curtains over them. We left the heater on the entire time we were there, and all our produce we left on the counter still froze overnight. The lower-floor bedroom gets very cold, while the upper-floor one is very warm as all the heat in the house migrates to it. The cottage would be much improved by an addition of thermal curtains over the many windows all over the house - the majority of them can't be covered at all, and all those wonderful old windows let in a -ton- of cold at night. Also, white curtains would make many of the rooms - which all feel very dim - seem brighter. Also, all the stairways are very narrow and steep. Takes some getting used too. So, in short - It's nice, but needs some small improvements, mostly curtains and better lights - then it'd probably be a wonderful little cabin!

"Absolutely superb"

5 of 5

Our stay at the "Tuck-It-Inn" cottage was truly wonderful. The process of booking, finding the place, checking in, etc was completely smooth. Location in the redwoods was beautiful, and felt very private and secluded. Looking up at the stars through the trees at night was breathtaking. We loved the rambling cottagey feel to the place. The view from practically every window was great, and it felt like every door opened up onto yet another great little deck! It was very comfortable and well equipped - particularly the kitchen, which had everything we needed. Linens were nice, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Our only surprise was that the place seemed much larger in real life than we imagined from the photos (but a nice problem to have!).Proximity to many activities was great. We spent a day kayaking the Russian river, a couple of days in Sonoma and Napa wineries, had great meals at local restaurants, and enjoyed some colourful nightlife in Guerneville.Truly, we can't say enough about this place. Highly recommended.

"Cozy sweet"

4 of 5

Loved the cozy, quiet location, all of the decks, privacy and beauty. Would go back in a heartbeat.one inconvenience: 4 adults w/graduate degrees could not get the DVD player to work. We brought 3 Dvd's along hoping to nestle in in the evening and watch a movie. One channel got the sound and another the picture but none got both together. Needs some detailed instructions.

Manager Response:

We'll check out the DVD player asap and fix whatever needs fixing. Rachel, General Manager

"Absolutley Breathtaking"

5 of 5

This home reminds me of the house i grew up in. Beautiful! The girls and I had a great time.I suggest parking up the hill, the parking deck is a little scary.

Manager Response:

Wonderful that you enjoyed Tuck-Inn so much. It is a great house, perched on the side of the hill. Anyone who is not comfortable with the edge of the cliff parking pads that are so common around here is welcome to park the short distance up the street. -general manager

"A Real Treasure"

5 of 5

This unique home gives you the feeling of staying in a treehouse with its multiple levels, loads of windows and porches, and cozy woodsy interior. There are little treasures everywhere you look, whether its one of the many collectibles, family photos or just the amazing views of the treetops. This is a great place to come and relax and enjoy the moment.

Manager Response:

We're glad these folks appreciated the unique charms of Tuck-It-Inn. It is a very special property. -rkl

"Not enough charm to outweigh all its funkiness"

1 of 5

I wanted to love Tuck It Inn. I spent a lot of time researching rentals in the Russian River, and loved the charm and authenticity of Tuck It Inn from the photos. I read all of the reviews on it and everyone seemed to find it magical. It's not. In a word, the house is jenky. It's like it started as a living room, and every other room was added later. The living room is small, fitting a small loveseat and a chair. The kitchen is a few steps down from the living room and feels like an add on - the Viking range is great but the rest of the kitchen is outdated, not in a charming way, and it's cluttered. The dining room is a few steps on the other side of the living room and feels like an enclosed sun porch - although the windows are gorgeous. The big bathroom feels like it was added on to the lower bedroom and it has no insulation. The wiring through out the house is frightening. The lighting is poor. The kitchen supplies are disgusting - rusty baking pans and utensils. I'm a collector of American antique furniture - I love authenticity and charm - but the funkiness outweighs any charm that this little cabin has. It's also dangerous. We never found the lights leading from the parking pad to the house, and it's pitch dark out at night. My mom slipped walking down to the house the first night, and was terrified to make the trek outside again. Also, Cazadero is way out in the boonies - probably 20 minutes from Guerneville, and this house is built on a steep slope, so we felt a bit trapped. Unless we wanted to walk on the narrow Austin Creek Rd., there was no where to let the dogs run - it isn't fenced and there's a highway below the property - and no flat space on the property. To get the dogs to "do their business," I ended up walking them on leash up and down the steep trail up to the parking pad. It was no vacation. In hindsight, the photos of the house are accurate. They just don't capture how each room has steps going up or down into the next room, and it doesn't capture the general jenkiness of the house. On the positive side, the house is surrounded by redwoods, completely secluded, and the views from the windows are gorgeous, and the deck off the kitchen is lovely, aside from the road noise from the Cazadero Highway. But given that we were paying over $1,000 for three nights, we felt cheated. But as it turns out, Russian River Getaways, who manages this property, is fantastic. After a rough first night at Tuck It Inn, we called them the next morning - I was anticipating a fight to get out of Tuck It Inn - but they happily moved us to another property - we just had to pay the difference in price plus the cleaning fee at the new house. And the new house - located on the river and the Northwood Golf Course in Monte Rio was fantastic.

Tuck-it-Inn is so very quaint, nestled in the redwoods, a real gem. This cabin has everything and more to ensure a relaxing and comfortable stay...I miss it already

"Perfect and cozy retreat, away from it all"

4 of 5

The Tuck-It-In is a wonderful cabin the woods of Cazadero, full of character and charm. It was a perfect pick for a week away from the city, off the 'grid' yet still close to society, activities, and good restaurants. The cabin has many nice details and warm/creative touches, and is a fabulous hide-a-way for a couple or 2, or a family. The kitchen is also well-equipped, and the cabin has lots of nice extras - raincoats, umbrellas, flashlights, candles, games, blankets, books, fireplace items, basic toiletries, and pantry needs, etc.

"This place is a vacation in itself"

5 of 5

While Russian River in winter can be cold, dark and damp (even water logged), this place is pure magic. It is all romantic forest cabin and vacation adventure all at once. And the details in the house clearly speak to love that has been poured into it.

Tuck-It-Inn is a very charming, and well appointed home. It was the perfect place to spend a very rainy weekend with friends and family. It was spacious and comfortable. We will definitely be back.

"Very private & relaxing"

4 of 5

Great privacy. Allowed Dogs which is great - area closed in from road. Within walking distance to the creek. Great scenery. A place you hate to leave !!. A little expensive for 2 people but this house accomadates 6 or more - therefore a bonus.

Manager Response:

Actually this home is limited to four people.

"Rustic Charm, Complete Privacy, Gourmet Kitchen & Comfort"

5 of 5

My husband & I rode our motorcycles from B.C. to California, looking for great biking roads & a relaxed place to stay while exploring the Russian River Valley & Coast. This is the perfect retreat from which to day trip this gorgeous area. Loved spacious master bedroom with French-door deck access & light-filled master bath with nice towels, double sinks & comfortable clawfoot tub. Bedroom woodstove was wonderful as weather was unseasonably cold & wet when we arrived (really thankful for the dry wood & kindling left for starting the fire). Built-in dining-room daybeds perfect for curling up with a good book.Covered outdoor deck has excellent gas BBQ. Kitchen, with terrific old porcelain sinks/drainer, butcher block counters, fabulous commercial Viking gas range & island prep table is a gourmet's delight & very well equipped. Terrific sound system. Loved the ambience; really interesting decor (fascinating old photographs), mood-lighting + task lighting in all rooms, thoughtful touches like candles. Hot tub nicely situated & easy to use (although chemical smell pretty strong). Hillside cabin location excellent for complete privacy but close to amenities. Can walk to both Raymond's Bakery & the cute & (for basics) pretty well-stocked Cazadero General Store (longer walk, but pleasant & great exercise thanks to the cabin's hillside location). My only (minor) criticisms would be to recommend some new bedlinens for the master bed & perhaps an upgraded mattress (although ok & fairly firm, the one at present was a little saggy toward the middle for my taste). Some might object to the muted road noise from the Old Cazadero Highway down below the cabin, but we didn't weren't bothered by it. Overall we loved this place & wished we could have stayed longer!

"Treetop weekend"

4 of 5

We enjoyed the home very much. We especially liked the rustic log cabin feel and we felt very homey. The privacy was exceptional as we could see no other residences. The way it was built on a hillside made us feel we were up in the canopy of the trees. The cabin was well equipped and we experienced no problems, all worked as we were told.My only suggestion is to supply some type of space heater etc. in the downstairs bathroom area. We were with an older couple who felt the lowerer area was too cold. The upstairs stairs were a little too "rustic" for the seniors. Great time though.

-Brad on 05/20/2010

"Perfect Choice"

5 of 5

Our group of ladies had a wonderful stay. Since each sleeping area was on a different floor we all felt like we had plenty of privacy when we needed it. The deck with table off the kitchen allowed the cooks to have plenty of room to create while the "eaters," and cleaner uppers chatted at the table. The house was clean and inviting and the area quiet and serene, except for the thunder. The only glitch was an errant smoke detecter which we finally found hidden on top of some books and removed its old battery. It finally shut-up.Thank You, again, for a great place to retreat to.Linda

"Snow White & the 7 Dwarfs felt present!"

5 of 5

Our 4 yr. old daughter thought we were guests' of Snow White and so we went along with it! This house was magical and had all the charm and character we were looking for to make our mountain vacation complete! It almost felt like it was built for us as the 2 twin beds, @ each end of the dining room perfectly spaced our 8 & 12 yr. old boys to eliminate the night time rivalry, the upstairs loft room accommodated our 19 yr. old daughter and the chair & ottoman downstairs fit our 4 yr. old perfectly in a make-shift chaise bed! We loved cooking & even baking cupcakes in the kitchen along with our nightly barbeques! We could have benefitted from a bit better lighting throughout the house, as the evenings made it a challenge to read or work on our laptops but there were times we enjoyed the feeling of darkness too! We are not fireplace people as the smoke bothers us so we couldn't bring in light that way. The parking was a bit challenging upon returning from our daily outings but mainly because our suburban is so grande but we got better at calculating the angles & backinig in on day 3!The sloped lot prevented us from being able to send our boys out for play and because of that we did feel a little "on top of eachother" at times but we sure enjoyed the privacy and feel of being perched all alone in this darling magical hillside at Snow Whites home! Thank you to the owners for offering it and for doing such a great job in architecture & design in creating a true cabin feel & experience, which was what brought us here in the 1st place! We were very comfortable in your home and have already begun recommending it to all our extended family & friends! Also we really enjoyed the Cazadero Market Grocer down the street and were amazed that they even had cupcake liners and sprinkles on their shelf! They had everything, right down to the rental home videos and loved the local people we chatted with while shopping there too! Hope to be back soon!
